Sanchita Islam (1973–2023) was an English artist, painter, writer and filmmaker of Bangladeshi descent, born in Manchester. She read at the London School of Economics before training in fine art, and in 1999 founded Pigment Explosion, an ongoing project across painting, drawing, writing, film and photography exploring mental health, identity and migration. Her work was exhibited internationally and she published several books; long-form drawing and memoir were made in parallel over years, and she spoke of art-making as recovery.
